What you need to apply for Master of Science: Advanced Synthesis & Catalysis at University of Regensburg
English, level B2 or equivalent
You do not need to have proof of German at the time of the application, but you need to have basic German knowledge (120 hours of instruction) at the end of your first year. Until you proof this, your enrollment is only conditionally.

If you have successfully graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or in a chemistry-related degree program with excellent grades and wish to expand your knowledge of the molecular sciences, then the SynCat program is the perfect match for you. The selection process involves several stages. Initial application screening will take into account your degree transcript and extracurricular activities. Subsequent stages will assess your approach to a chemical problem and, finally, your performance in an interview with SynCat professors.
Prerequisite for admission to our Master's program is sufficient knowledge of the English language at level B2 CEFR. In order to prove sufficient English language skills, you would have to provide a certificate, e.g. IELTS, TOEFL or a certificate from your university if the language of instruction for your Bachelor's program was English.

An average grade of at least 2.50 (German grading system) in your Bachelor's degree is required; your degree has to be converted using the [modified Bavarian formula](https://www.syn-cat.eu/files/mod_Bavarian_Formula.jpg).

2. Read all fields of the required information thoroughly.
3. Fill in the forms.
4. Collect the following documents as simple copy of your original document. If the applied language differs from English or German, have it translated by a sworn translator.

5. Scan the original and the translated documents.

Based on your application documents we will count your admission score on a point scale. Depending on which you might or might not get asked to prove your chemical knowledge by answering a chemical question.
You will be sent a problem sheet via email that comprises some basic chemical problem sets. Here you may have a peek how a typical question sheet might look like. We kindly ask you to submit your answer within four hour. Solving the problem sheet is a crucial part of the application process. Please take this serious and put in all of your efforts. We are testing your skills of adaption and flexibility as well as your knowledge about some chemical issues.
I got invited to the interview - what can I expect?
An interview with you might be scheduled to clarify some details.
In the interview we would like to know for example what motivates you to study SynCat and how good your English and basic chemical skills are, especially in organic and inorganic chemistry.
The Decision is out
You will be notified about the status of your admission within 4 to 6 weeks after the application deadline for your desired term.

There are no tuition fees for international students at the University of Regensburg.
Depending on your field of study, you will have to reckon with certain material expenses for books, etc.
In addition, you have to pay the so-called "Semesterbeitrag" (semester fee) of €198 (as of SoSe 25) every semester at the university. This fee includes a semester ticket . This allows you to use all buses in the city area and within the zones of the Verkehrsverbund RVV (including trains).
For the preparatory German course, course fees of € 530,- per semester (as of SoSe 25) have to be paid.
