The goal of this work is to develop a robust pipeline for analyzing the image data to quantitatively describe the evolutionary changes in the microstructure, reconstruct the deformation of the packed bed as a whole, and transfer these insights into macroscopic models. Specifically, the evolution of the microstructure over time shall be characterized and the deformation of the entire bulk shall be reconstructed. For this purpose, various methods of image registration, segmentation and analysis for porous media, including AI-based methods, shall be used.
