Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) is one of Europe's largest and most diverse universities of the arts. Among its innovative programs is the Dance, Context, Choreography (Dance Solo/Dancing/Authorship) course, which is part of the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT Berlin). This unique program focuses on contemporary dance and choreography, offering students the opportunity to explore dance as a solo performance art as well as in ensemble settings, emphasizing the development of individual artistic voices and authorship. What to prepare for your application to Dance (Solo / Dancing / Authorship)
After the online application has been successfully completed, print out the application for admission, sign it and send it by post to the UdK Berlin together with the following documents:
Photocopy of the bachelor's degree certificate or equivalent (not certified; the original or a certified photocopy must only be submitted for enrollment).
Foreign university degrees must be submitted to uni-assist before applying to the UdK Berlin to check the recognition. The uni-assist certificate (preliminary examination documentation/VPD) must be enclosed with the complete application documents.
Applicants from the PR China, Vietnam and Mongolia do not contact uniassist for the recognition test, but rather the Academic Evaluation Center (APS) of the German Embassy. There is a special visa procedure for them, so it is necessary to contact the APS well in advance of applying. You can find detailed information and forms on the respective APS website.
Bank statement (for bank transfer from abroad, proof of payment) for a fee of 30 € for carrying out the application and admission process. A refund of the fee is excluded even if the application is withdrawn.
Evidence of previous study and examination achievements and, if necessary, evidence of professional training and activities.
A letter of recommendation from an academic or artist (required).
A curriculum vitae in tabular form which, if available, shows academic achievements, professional experience and other qualifications, involvement in projects, research activities, prizes, awards or grants.
A letter of motivation (max. 1000 words) containing the following information:
Applicant's reasons for choosing the course and expectations.
Information on current personal creative and artistic research interests; Explanation of how these can be worked on through body-based performative practice.
Reflections on the relationship between the applicant's artistic practice and a broader cultural and social context.
A short, self-written discursive text (500-750 words, double line spacing) in which a recent example of contemporary art practice is critically discussed and contextualized.
3 examples from the applicant's own body-based and performative practice (at least 5 minutes each). Overall, the video material submitted should not be longer than 20 minutes. The video material must be uploaded online. All work samples must be provided with the name, title of the work, year of creation, and an explanation of the applicant's role in the production.
The accepted file formats are MP4, MOV and PDF, total file size max. 5 GB.
All documents requested above (formal documents) must also be put together in a PDF file and uploaded.

All the following steps must be undertaken during the application period.

3. Log in to the Campus Management Portal (https://my.udk-berlin.de) and submit an application for admission to the MA SODA programme by the application deadline and upload the following formal documents in PDF file format (max. 20 MB) to the application portal during the application process:

12. ● An artistic research proposal (max 1000 words) outlining the applicant's current creative and artistic research interests; explaining how these might be addressed through a body-based performative practice, giving details of content and methodology

14. ● The required English proficiency for this English-language Master's programme will be verified as part of the admission process; no special English language proof is required for application.
15. We recommend language skills at B2 level and the application must be written in English.
