American Studies

Successful completion of the Bachelor's degree program in American Studies as a major or minor subject at Goethe University _or_ an equivalent degree from a German university in the same _or_ related subject area as a major or minor subject and with a recognizable North American focus _or_ an equivalent foreign degree in the same or related subject area._Applicant, who do not have a degree in American Studies must provide proof of the following prior knowledge:_

_- _at least 4 successfully completed courses on the literature, culture and/or history of the USA. If the degree certificate does not identify any USA-specific courses, applicants should enclose the relevant course descriptions (syllabus) and

have a good knowledge of the most important methodological approaches in literary and cultural studies. In this case, too, applicants are advised to enclose course descriptions in order to prove that they have dealt with these methods in their studies

• English language skills at level C1 (GeR); to be proven by:
• - ​​Bachelor's degree from Goethe University with American or English Studies as a major or minor subject _or_ an equivalent degree in the same or a related subject from another university _or_
• - a completed university degree in an English-speaking country _or_
• _-_ TOEFL (Internet based at least 110 points, Computer based at least 270 points, Paper based at least 637 points) _or_ - IELTS (at least 7.0 in all four areas)
