A letter of motivation in English in the amount of approx. 600 words, from which the previous professional interests, as well as the future research interest in the course of the study in Heidelberg, emerge.

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in English Studies/Anglistik or a course with essentially the same content.
Minimum standard period of study: 3 years.
For the master's program in English Studies/English Studies (main subject), the proportion of subjects must generally be at least 50% or 70 credit points; in exceptional cases, a specialist share of less than 50%, but at least 20% or 28 credit points is sufficient.
If the degree is not yet available by the end of the application period, a preliminary certificate from the university of the achievements so far is sufficient with the promise that the corresponding course of study is expected by the beginning of the semester, for which the admission is being applied for will be concluded. The applicant takes part in the admission and selection process with an average grade, which is determined on the basis of his previous examinations; the result of the degree is ignored for the selection process.

All higher education and university diplomas including Transcripts of Records): A Transcript of Records is an official document of the college/university, which lists all academic achievements within a degree programme or within a degree programme combination completely with individual grades and indication of semester or academic year.
In the case of foreign higher education and university certificates, the grading system used at the foreign institution of higher education must be taken from the attached Transcript of Records, as this is required to determine the German equivalent grade. The grading system must indicate both the minimum and maximum grades to be achieved.
If the degree has not been obtained by the end of the application period, a provisional certificate from the university with all the work completed by this deadline must be submitted (provisional transcriptof records). The certificate must show that the course of study will probably be completed by the beginning of the admission semester applied for. If possible, please apply to the Examinations Office responsible for you for proof of the average grade achieved so far for all the work performed up to this point in time.
For German-language degree programmes, proof of knowledge of the German language at the level of the German Language Examination for University Entrance Level 2 (DSH 2) must be submitted at the time of enrolment (does NOT apply to applicants with a German university entrance qualification). Please note: In case of admission, applicants must submit their university entrance qualification at the latest when they enrol at Heidelberg University. We recommend that you also submit these documents with your application for the Master's programme. The proof of the university entrance qualification includes the following documents:
School leaving certificate entitling the holder to pursue higher education in the country of origin (e.g. Abitur, high school diploma, Baccalaureate, etc.), including the corresponding lists of individual grades
If applicable: certificate of the passed assessment test, if such a test was taken in Germany, including the corresponding individual grades overview
If applicable: certificates or transcripts of university entrance examinations passed abroad, including the corresponding list of grades and - if available - the notification of admission from the foreign university. In addition (except for German and English language documents), an officially certified sworn translation in German or English is required.
