What you need to apply for Economics at Kiel University (CAU)

Bachelor's Degree with English as language of instruction
Minimum 4 years English at school, at least with the grade satisfactory.
Anyone who has completed a Bachelor’s degree programme with a standard period of
study of at least three years at a German or comparable foreign institution of higher
education can be admitted to the Master’s degree programme. The candidate must have
obtained at least 180 ECTS credits, have a minimum grade of 2.5, or passed a comparable
final examination.

35 out of 180 credit points of the Bachelor's degree have to be attained from courses on principles of economics (i.e. courses on microeconomic theory and courses on macroeconomic theory) with no overlapping in substance and from courses on quantitative methods with no overlapping in substance.

Applicants are expected to hold a Bachelor's degree or a comparable university degree (grade of 2.5 or better) with a regular period of university education of three years or more and 180 ECTS credit points or more.
35 out of 180 ECTS credit points of the Bachelor's degree have to be attained from courses in economics, in particular covering micro- and macroeconomic theory, and from courses in quantitative basics, in particular covering analysis, algebra, statistics and econometrics. The contents of these courses must not overlap.
The folloing is only possible for applications until 31 March 2026: Anyone who has completed a Bachelor’s degree programme as described above with a grade of 3.0 or better can be admitted to the Master’s degree programme if he or she can produce proof of 35 ECTS credits in accordance with the description above, and if the average grade, weighted by ECTS credits, from the courses in economics, mathematics, statistics and econometrics is 2.5 or better.
Content-related proof of the required basic knowledge must be provided by submitting an official module handbook or a module description that has been approved by the offering institution of higher education. To avoid unnecessary paper piles, it is also allowed, to provide a link to an official online handbook. The module manual needs to be provided either in German or English language.

Of these 35 ECTS credits mentioned above, at least 15 ECTS credits must come from courses in the field of Quantitative Basics.
