Thesis (Bachelor/Master) in Insect Breeding
Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft · Gießen
What you'll do
Here you make a difference The goal of »AquaInsect« is the development of a sustainable shrimp feed based on insect protein from the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) to replace conventional fishmeal in aquaculture. Regional residual materials from the food industry serve as substrate for insect breeding. Through their conversion into high-quality protein, resources are used efficiently and regional material cycles are closed. In addition, the high energy consumption in breeding these tropical insects is to be reduced through selective breeding measures to make protein production economically more attractive. Fields of work:
- Feed chemical analyses (Weende analysis)
- Further analyses (e.g., fatty acid and amino acid analytics)
- Insect breeding techniques
- Microbiological and, if applicable, molecular biological work
- Feed optimization
