Subject you study
Physics, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Microsystems Engineering, Nanotechnology

What you'll do

  • You produce optical layer systems to improve the optical properties of vacuum cells using physical or chemical vapor deposition (PVD/CVD).
  • You characterize the surfaces and optical properties of the produced layers. For this, you use tools such as reflectometry and atomic force microscopy.
  • You simulate the optical behavior of the layer systems numerically (FEM) and derive design parameters for their production.
  • You document your results in the master's thesis and present them in the research group.

What you need

  • Student in a scientific university degree program (Master) in natural sciences (e.g. physics, materials science) or engineering sciences (e.g. in the fields of applied physics, microsystems engineering, nanotechnology) or other degree programs relevant to the activity
  • Enjoyment and experience in practical laboratory work
  • Basic knowledge of optics
  • Basic knowledge of microtechnology
  • Willingness to familiarize yourself with numerical simulation methods (FEM); initial experience with simulation tools (COMSOL, ANSYS, Python)
  • Initial programming experience (Python or MATLAB) for data evaluation and simulation control

What you get

  • DLR stands for diversity, appreciation, and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. For this purpose, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applications from severely disabled persons are given preference in case of professional suitability.
