What you will do

  • As part of the thesis / internship, a demonstrator for an underwater communication system is to be developed. Various tasks, from hardware to software, need to be completed for this.
  • To transmit data underwater, it is necessary to drive a transmitting transducer with high voltage and to receive the emitted signal with a low-noise receiver.
  • For this purpose, a hardware demonstrator is to be built, using some purchased parts and some parts yet to be developed.
  • Subsequently, this link will be used with the GnuRadio software suite to transmit data in an underwater scenario.
  • This includes analyzing the current state of the art and implementing a suitable method in GnuRadio (keyword: OFDM).

What you need

  • Ongoing technical studies.
  • Interest in analog electronics (operational amplifiers, filters, electronics assembly, development of own PCBs).
  • Knowledge of schematic and layout creation (Mentor/KiCad, or similar).
  • Experience with simulation software (Spice/Matlab) as well as Raspberry Pi and GnuRadio.
  • Enjoyment of teamwork and an open way of working.
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills.
