Question 1

How do I apply to HfMDK Frankfurt?

Accepted Answer

You apply online through the HfMDK application portal, which is only open during the application period. After the deadline you get an invoice for a 50 euro administrative fee, and your application is only complete and processed once that fee has reached the university's account.

Question 2

When is the Master's application deadline for summer semester 2027?

Accepted Answer

For summer semester 2027, the application period for MA Instrumental Studies (Focus: Teaching), MA Historical Interpretation Practice, MA Educational Science in Music and the BA/MA programmes in Church Music and Composition runs until 1 December 2026. The university notes that dates are subject to change.

Question 3

Is there an aptitude test?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most aptitude tests, especially for music programmes, take place in fixed test phases. The tests for the 2027 summer semester are listed for late January 2027. Not all programmes start in the summer semester, so check your programme's page for its own dates and requirements.

Question 4

Which documents do I need for a Master's application?

Accepted Answer

You need a passport photo, a complete CV in table form, your school leaving certificate (a foreign one with a certified German or English translation), your Bachelor's certificate or equivalent with the Transcript of Records, and proof of language skills for your programme. The document list also includes an APS certificate, marked for China and Vietnam. Many programmes ask for more, such as a letter of motivation, assignments or a phoniatric report for voice.

Question 5

Is the application fee refundable?

Accepted Answer

No. The 50 euro fee is charged per applicant and is not refunded, even if you withdraw. If you apply for two programmes in the same round, you pay it only once, but you pay again if you reapply in a later round.
