Master of Science in Meteorology (research-oriented)

• Good English skills: The program of study is largely taught in English. It is possible to complete the program of study by only taking English-language courses. English language proficiency is essential as scientific communication in the field of meteorology mainly takes place in English.

Entrance requirements

• Entrance requirements for the Meteorology master's degree program are:
• Proof of a completed bachelor’s degree in Meteorology with a grade of 3.0 or better, or an equivalent degree from a higher education institution in Germany or abroad.
• An interview is required if you have a bachelor's degree in Meteorology with a grade lower than 3.0 or a non-equivalent degree. The examination committee decides on the equivalence of the degree and on any additional requirements for admission to the master’s degree program in accordance with the University Act. It also decides whether and, if so, to what extent, courses and examinations from an unrelated bachelor’s degree can be credited as courses and examinations in the minor subject of the Meteorology master’s program (see appendix to the examination regulations). To be permitted to continue your studies, you must meet the requirements within the first academic year.
• A sufficient level of active and passive English language proficiency enabling the reading and understanding of English-language specialist literature and the participation in courses taught in English is required; not included is the ability to complete written coursework in English, unless otherwise laid out in the examination regulations.
• A further requirement for admission to the master's degree program in Meteorology is that applicants must retain their eligibility to take the corresponding degree program examination. A declaration to this effect must be submitted for verification.
• Applicants who are unable to submit a bachelor’s degree certificate as required in subsection 1, no. 1 along with their application can apply if they demonstrate that they have acquired at least 135 credit points in the form of academic achievements and examination results. The relevant certificate must be issued by the corresponding office of their current institute of higher education. Alternatively, they may also apply if they have obtained a provisional certificate of recognition issued by JGU.
• Even if all entrance requirements are met, admission to the master’s degree program in Meteorology requires successful completion of the admissions process. If there is an entrance restriction to the master's degree program, admission will be granted on the basis of the stipulations of the university’s selection statutes.
• Applicants who did not earn their university entrance qualification (_Hochschulzugangsberechtigung_, HZB) at a German-language institution or complete a German-language degree program do not need to provide proof of German language skills for the Meteorology master's degree program. Instead, proof of very good active English language skills at a B2 level of the CEFR must be submitted in accordance with section 7 subsection 5 of the enrollment regulations.
