How to apply
What you need to apply for MSc Meteorology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU Munich)
1\. the successful completion of a first professionally qualifying university degree or an equivalent degree obtained in Germany or abroad either in Physics, Astrophysics, Meteorology or in another mathematical/scientific field, and
2\. the successful participation in an assessment procedure conducted by the Faculty of Physics for the purpose of determining whether the applicant is eligible for the Master's program to which he or she is applying. Applicants to the Master's programs in Physics and Astrophysics will find a detailed description of the procedures used for the assessment here. Candidates for the master's program in Meteorology can find details on the assessment procedure in the official document called “Satzung über das Eignungsverfahren für den Masterstudiengang Meteorologie an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München”, which is published on the German website.

What to prepare for your application to MSc Meteorology
To access the application portal you will have to create an account. Once you have access, the application form will ask you to provide the following documents and information.
1. A tabular curriculum vitae.
2. An essay of no more than 1,000 words in English explaining the motivation and the skills that will enable you to succeed in the MSc Astrophysics programme, with a detailed description of achievements in your previous degree programme(s).
3. A current transcript of records and, if already available, a copy of your Bachelor's degree certificate (or a certificate of an equivalent university degree).
4. If available, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores in physics if your previous degree was not completed at a university in the European Union. This may help us gauge your previous experience, but we will review your application also without GRE scores.
5. If available and if you are a non-native English speaker, please provide proof of English language proficiency through the TOEFL, IELTS or a comparable standardized exam. Please note that if you are from a non-English speaking country and your Bachelor degree instruction was nevertheless carried out in English, no exam results are necessary. Please just provide a letter from your University confirming that the instruction was in English. A language certification is not required if you have a German Abitur.
Optional: A letter of recommendation is not required for your application. However, you may ask for a letter to be sent to us directly via [email protected]. Please note that we will not consider letters submitted by the applicant; any letter needs to be sent directly to us by the letter writer.

The application for the MSc Meteorology includes the following steps:
1. Participation in the aptitude procedure for the MSc Meteorology (see below).
2. Depending on whether you belong to the group Germans and Bildungsinländer (students of foreign nationality who obtained a German higher education entrance qualification) or EU/EEA citizens or Non-EU citizens, further requirements for the application have to be considered. Please read the information on the LMU's website carefully.
The application for the MSc Meteorology requires a first professional university degree or an equivalent degree from Germany or abroad in one of the subject areas physics, astrophysics or meteorology or in another mathematical-scientific subject area.
