What you need to apply for Soft Matter and Materials at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU)

The admission requirements for the Master’s programme in Soft Matter and Materials are:
1. Proof of a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering,
2. physics or materials science from a university in Germany or a
3. degree from a university in Germany or abroad that is
4. not significantly different.
5. Evidence of practical exercises in the laboratory amounting to at least 18
6. credit points (LP), part of which
7. must be carried out using chemical working techniques.
8. Evidence of achievements in atomic and molecular sciences amounting to at least 3 credits.
9. Evidence of achievements in thermodynamics amounting to at least 3 credits. Achievements that were not achieved
10.
11. in the underlying Bachelor's degree program can also be taken into account . The examination board decides on this.
(2) Proof of the required language skills in English at least at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Level B2 is demonstrated by:
This proof is also deemed to have been provided by the presentation of a German high school diploma showing that at least five years (four years for G8) of English lessons were attended in school and completed with at least “sufficient” or 5 points.
(3) A further requirement for admission to the Master's degree program in Soft Matter and Materials is that the right to take the examination for this degree program has not yet been lost. A corresponding declaration must be submitted for verification in this regard.
(4) If a final certificate is not available by the end of the application period to prove a Bachelor's degree in accordance with paragraph 1, an application can be made on the basis of a certificate of examination and study achievements already completed amounting to at least 135 credit points, which must have been issued by the responsible body of the previous university, or on the basis of a provisional certificate of recognition from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz for foreign degrees. The total number of credit points must be stated. If there is an admission restriction for the course of study, the provisions of the university selection statute in the currently valid version must be observed; in this case, the final result of the Bachelor's degree will not be taken into account in the selection process. If an applicant is selected on the basis of the certificate named in sentence 1, admission is subject to the condition that proof of the successful previous Bachelor's degree is submitted within a deadline specified in the admission notice, which proves the general and subject-specific admission requirements. If this proof is not provided on time, admission expires.
(5) Even if there are existing entry requirements, admission to the Master's degree program in Soft Matter and Materials depends on successfully completing the admission procedure. If there is an admission restriction for the Master's degree program, admission will be granted in accordance with the university selection statutes.
(6) Applications for admission to the Master’s programme “Soft Matter and Materials” must be made at JGU

(7) JGU carries out the admission and enrollment process in accordance with the legal basis applicable to it. TUDa is responsible for decisions on admissions and student status (enrolled, on leave, exmatriculated) as well as the information required for enrollment from JGU. The data required for enrollment is transferred from JGU to TUDa. Enrollment and re-registration at TUDa requires corresponding enrollment and re-registration at JGU.
(8) Studying is possible in the winter and summer semesters.
