What you need to apply for Romance literatures at University of Hamburg
What to prepare for your application to Romance literatures
Final documents of your first degree:
bachelor's certificate (or comparable, e.g., the diploma), the examination certificate, a complete overview of grades (transcript of records) If you do not have a transcript of records in German or English, you must provide a certified translation.
If you do not yet have a degree certificate, submit a current transcript of records with your grade point average. (If you are enrolled in several degree programs or have completed external courses, also upload these here.)
If you completed your first degree at a university outside Germany, enclose an explanation of the local grading system (excerpts/copies from the Internet or other sources are acceptable). If available, also include the result of the preliminary review documentation by uni-assist.

German language certificate (if you do not yet have your test result, an informal written confirmation regarding your Germa language skills will suffice for the purpose of the online application. Please note that a German language certificate will however be reuired latest upon enrolment, find a list of accepted language certificates here.

Please submit all documents as uncertified copies electronically. For documents not issued in German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, or English, a translation into German by an officially sworn translator is also required.

The following special entry requirements apply to the consecutive Master’s program in Romance Literatures :
a first professional university degree from a German or recognized foreign university in the subjects of Romance philology (French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Romanian),
or alternatively, a minimum of 60 credits in one of the above-mentioned subjects, which can be proven by a transcript of records of the Bachelor's certificate.
Admission Requirements
University degree
A bachelor's degree in a Romance language subject (French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan) from the University of Hamburg or a comparable degree program from another university.
If you do not have a degree certificate at the time of application, you can submit one by the end of the first master's semester. For the documents to be submitted in this case, see "Application Documents to Be Submitted" below.
Other Special Admission Requirements
Language skills in Spanish or French at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, if you choose one of these languages, both in the individual philology and the comparative studies profile (first language), or
Language skills in Italian or Portuguese at level B2 of the
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), if one of these languages is chosen in both the individual philological and comparative studies profiles (first language).
Language skills in Spanish or French at level B2 of the CEFR, if one of these languages is chosen in the comparative studies profile (second language), or
Language skills in Italian or Portuguese at level B1 of the CEFR, if one of these languages is chosen in the comparative studies profile (second language).
Recognition of Degree Certificates Obtained Abroad
For applicants who earned their first degree abroad, the recognition of a degree certificate obtained abroad will be processed as part of the faculty's application process.
German Language Proficiency
All applicants who did not complete their undergraduate degree at a German-speaking university must demonstrate sufficient German language proficiency for enrollment (not yet for application). This applies to German-speaking and German-English master's programs.
