For the winter semester, programmes with admission restrictions (NC) take applications from 1 May to 15 June, and programmes without restrictions from 1 May to 31 July. On UDE's page for applicants from non-EU countries, it depends on the Master's. For all other Master's programmes you apply through UDE's own application portal.

German is the language of instruction except in the English-taught programmes. Most applicants from abroad need German at DSH-2 level before they start, apart from a few programme-specific exceptions. Accepted proofs include DSH-2, DSD II, telc C1 Hochschule, and TestDaF with TDN-4 in all parts. DSH-3 currently applies to the M.Sc. Business Administration in Duisburg and the dual-subject M.A. German as a Second or Foreign Language, as well as Medicine. For programmes without admission restrictions you can apply without enough German and may be offered a place in a language course first.

For the international ISE programmes at Master's level you need English at CEFR level B2, shown with a certificate such as TOEFL, IELTS or a Medium of Instruction letter.

For regular students in the winter semester 2026/27 the social and student body contribution is 367.80 EUR in total: 226.80 EUR for the Deutschlandsemesterticket, 125.00 EUR for the Studierendenwerk and 16.00 EUR for the student body.
