Entry requirements

The prerequisite for admission to the Master's program in Energy Science is the successful completion of the Bachelor's program in Energy Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen or an equivalent or comparable program in the field of energy sciences.

The overall grade for the degree must generally be at least (3.0) or better. The examination board determines equivalence. It determines which additional examinations must be completed by and by which date.

As a rule, the following are considered to be equivalent:

• a relevant degree programme of at least four years with a first professional qualification and a total workload of at least 240 credits in the field of energy sciences at another university within the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act or
• a relevant degree program with a total workload of at least 240 credits in the field of energy sciences at another university outside the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act, provided that a significant difference in quality compared to a degree from a university within the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act can not be demonstrated, and provided that the examination board determines that the fundamentals taught in the Bachelor's program "Energy Science" at the University of Duisburg-Essen were covered to a sufficient extent.

In exceptional cases, the examination board may also admit applicants with other professional qualifications with a lower number of ECTS points if the missing competencies can be demonstrated by additional achievements in the field of the degree program within the framework of further study achievements, at least one year of professional experience in study-relevant fields, scientific activities or publications.

Permit

The language of instruction at the University of Duisburg-Essen is German (except for English-taught programs). Therefore, you must have good German language skills if you want to succeed. The majority of international applicants must pass the "German Language Examination for University Entrance" (DSH 2 level; with a few exceptions) before beginning their studies.

• Bildungsinländer (people who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad) do not need any special proof of German language skills.
• Citizens of an EU member state (and citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) or German nationals with a foreign educational qualification and
• Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign higher education entrance qualification must pass the "German Language Examination for University Entrance" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before beginning their studies.

Language skills

The courses are taught in German or English. Module and sub-module examinations can be taken in German or English.

Applicants must have sufficient language skills to be able to follow events held in English.

Students whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language skills equivalent to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR) before beginning their studies. This can be achieved by providing evidence of English as a subject taken at the Abitur (7 points in the GK or LK exams), by having studied a subject for at least four years at a secondary school, or by passing an English language test.
