dMAT syllabus and exam pattern
The dMAT for Indian APS applicants has a 75-minute Core Module with three sections, Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares, followed by a 30-minute break and a 90-minute General Academic Module. Each Core section has 20 questions and 25 minutes. The official live question count for the General Academic Module is not published.
The full test order
- 1. Core Module, 75 minutes
- 2. Break, 30 minutes
- 3. General Academic Module, 90 minutes
English. The official preparation guide says notes are not allowed during the test.
Module 1
Core Module, 60 questions in 75 minutes
Figure Sequences
20 questions · 25 minutes
You see four matrices that change by a rule. Choose both the fifth and sixth matrices. Both choices must be correct for the question to count.
Mathematical Equations
20 questions · 25 minutes
Letters stand for whole numbers from 1 to 20. Use the linked equations to find the value of the requested letter.
Latin Squares
20 questions · 25 minutes
Fill the marked cell in a five-by-five grid so every letter appears once in each row and once in each column.
Module 2
General Academic Module, 90 minutes
You read academic texts and answer questions that test whether you can find information, connect ideas, read tables or figures, and judge what follows from the material.
What the official guide confirms
- • The module lasts 90 minutes.
- • The preparation booklet has four worked academic exercises across different subjects.
- • Topics can come from mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, engineering, business, economics, social sciences and humanities.
- • A fixed live question count is not published. Our mocks use four texts and 26 questions.
How to practise the test flow
Use the on-screen number entry
The equation section needs whole-number answers from 1 to 20. Our simulator gives you an on-screen keypad so you can practise that input.
Check before you end a section
Our full mocks lock a section after you confirm its end. You cannot return, so leave time to check marked or unanswered questions before moving on.
Take the break as planned
The break between the Core and General Academic modules is 30 minutes. Use it to reset before the 90-minute reading section.
Official score and practice score are different
The official certificate gives separate Core and subject-module results, each with a percentile rank and a dMAT score from 0 to 200. The official conversion is not published, so our practice does not guess it. We show the number you answered correctly.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the dMAT?
The timed tasks take 165 minutes: 75 minutes for the three Core sections and 90 minutes for the General Academic Module. A 30-minute break sits between the modules. The official site lists the full appointment at about 3.5 hours because instructions and test administration take extra time.
How many questions are in the dMAT?
The Core Module has 60 questions, 20 in each of its three sections. The official General Academic Module material confirms a 90-minute duration but does not publish a fixed live question count. The MS in Germany mock tests use 26 General Academic Module questions, for 86 questions in total.
Can I go back to an earlier dMAT section?
Treat every section as finished when you end it. Our full mock tests lock a section after you confirm its end, so you cannot return to it. This lets you practise careful time checks before moving on.
How is the dMAT scored?
The official certificate reports a dMAT score from 0 to 200 and a percentile rank, with separate Core and subject-module results. Our practice tool does not invent that conversion. It shows your correct answers and uses simple practice bands: Solid at 75% or more, Getting there at 50% to 74%, and Needs work below 50%.
