Key facts

Pay
Paid up to TVöD pay group 5
Subject you study
Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering

What you'll do

  • Literature research on the state of the art of CO2-active FT: achievable conversions and selectivities, iron catalysts used, reported lifetimes and deactivation mechanisms
  • Construction of a steady-state process model of the CO2-active FT route (electrolysis, CO2 supply, intensified FT reactor) in Aspen Plus, with a suitable reactor model
  • Definition of a reference case (separate RWGS reactor with downstream conventional FT) as a benchmark to quantify the effect of process intensification
  • Techno-economic and, where appropriate, ecological evaluation of the simulation results with Python
  • Break-even analysis: At which combination of catalyst activity, C5+ selectivity and lifetime does the CO2-active route become competitive compared to the reference case?

What you need

  • Studies in process engineering, chemical engineering or a comparable degree programme
  • Very good programming skills (e.g. Python, MATLAB, C++)
  • Good knowledge of flowsheet simulation software (e.g. Aspen Plus®, CHEMCAD)
  • Very high learning ability, initiative and independence

What you get

  • DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees in their personal and professional environment. For this purpose, our numerous training and further education opportunities are available to you. Equal opportunities are a particular concern for us; we therefore want to increase the proportion of women in science and management. Applications from severely disabled persons are given preference in case of professional suitability.
