Master Biochemistry

• Bachelor in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry or a related topic.
• Bachelor curriculum should include practical courses in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology/Genetics, Cell Biology
• Bachelors in Biotechnology will only be considered if transcripts show sufficient theoretical and practical skills in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology/Genetics/Cell Biology.
• Bachelors in Pharmacy are not considered.
• if you have not finished your Bachelor at time of application you can apply with a current transcript of records, showing individual grades for at least 93 % of the required credit points (168 ECTS out of 180 ECTS for German applicants).
• excellent command of the English language. We do not require a proof of English proficiency, however, you need to understand, speak, read and write English at a high level in order to master the curriculum.

International students

Two applications have to be send in by international students:

1\. one to the Department of Biochemistry (check of professional background); for prerequisites and necessary

documents please see above

2\. one to the International Office of the LMU Munich (check of formal eligibility to study at a German university).

mandatory entrance exam for invited applicants

\- only invited candidates may participate in the test, candidates will receive an invitation letter from us after we

have processed your application

\- written test of 90 min; results will be announced in the afternoon of the same day

\- date for the entrance exam is 2-3 weeks after each application deadline

\- place for the entrance exam is the Gene Center in Munich. You have to take the entrance exam here in Munich

at the specified date – no exceptions! Sorry, we cannot arrange locations around the globe.

\- unfortunately travel expenses cannot be covered

You can refer to the website [Anabin](https://anabin.kmk.org/anabin.html) or the [DAAD database](https://www2.daad.de/deutschland/nach-deutschland/voraussetzungen/en/57293-database-on-admission-requirements/) to find out whether your school leaving certificate qualifies you to embark on a degree program at a German university.
• in the original language — as an [officially certified copy](https://www.lmu.de/en/study/degree-students/applications-for-admission/certified-copies-and-translations/#st_img_text__master_1)
• with an [officially certified translation](https://www.lmu.de/en/study/degree-students/applications-for-admission/certified-copies-and-translations/#st_img_text__master_2). Certificates in English, French, Italian, Catalan, Latin, Portuguese, Rumanian and Spanish do not have to be translated.
• A recognition letter from the [Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle ](https://www.las.bayern.de/zeugnisanerkennung/allgemeinbildende_schulabschluesse/allgemeinbildende_schulabschluesse.html)für den Freistaat Bayern (ZAST) is required for holders of the International Baccalaureate IB ([guide (PDF, 223 KB)](https://cms-cdn.lmu.de/media/lmu/downloads/studium/internationale-studierende/merkblatt-ib.pdf)) who have not yet received their final certificate,
• Applicants from the USA (unless they already hold a bachelor's degree) and applicants from Afghanistan should send an e-mail to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) in good time before the application deadline, enclosing their certificates, CV and the desired LMU degree program, in order to prepare for the issuing of a recognition letter the [Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle ](https://www.las.bayern.de/zeugnisanerkennung/allgemeinbildende_schulabschluesse/allgemeinbildende_schulabschluesse.html)für den Freistaat Bayern. The International Admissions office also reserves the right to require a recognition letter from Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle in other individual cases.
• Applicants from the [PR China](https://www.aps.org.cn/), [India](https://aps-india.de/) and [Vietnam](https://vietnam.diplo.de/vn-de/willkommen/aktuelles/aps/1236800) should submit the certificate from the Akademische Prüfstelle bei der Deutschen Botschaft (APS).
• APS India: For admission to a degree program without admission restrictions, you must present the APS certificate on registration at the latest. This exception does not apply to all degree programs with admission restrictions. APS certificates must be presented when applying for degree programs with admission restrictions.

Expert reports, letters of recommendation or internship certificates are not required when applying to the International Office.
