1\. Qualified degree

Applicants can be admitted to the master's degree if they have a qualified degree in a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or in a comparable degree from a scientific university after at least 6 semesters of study (three years of study, 180 ECTS) that has a significant proportion of mechanical engineering Includes coursework.

A degree is considered qualified if the applicant is among the top 35% of a minimum one-year degree period or has completed the bachelor's degree with an overall grade of good or very good.

2\. Method and research-oriented content

Another admission requirement is proof of method- and research-oriented content amounting to at least 110 CP from the areas named in the current curriculum “Mathematical/scientific basics and engineering basics”. The examination board can determine additional study and examination achievements as well as the period for their provision. Provisional approval will be granted for the period of performance.

Registration for master's examinations and the master's thesis after the second semester is only permitted if the conditions have been passed in full. If the requirements are not met by the end of the third semester, admission will be withdrawn. This means that the master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the Ruhr University in Bochum cannot be continued.

3\. Standard period of study

Graduates of 6-semester courses must in any case complete additional coursework and examinations amounting to at least 30 credit points. The Examination Board decides on exceptions upon justified request.

Anyone who has passed a master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related degree at a scientific university or has definitively failed a bachelor's, master's, preliminary diploma or diploma examination in the field of mechanical engineering or a related field at a university cannot be admitted to the master's degree or whose license has been withdrawn in accordance with paragraph 2.

Admission is only for oneMaster's degree program in the faculty possible and permitted. If you are enrolled in more than one master's degree program of the faculty, for example by cheating, this will be assessed as serious cheating, which would result in exmatriculation from all master's degree programs of the faculty immediately after it became known.
