You should have a good first degree in cultural studies, tourism, social science or a related discipline, with a final grade of 2.5 or better according to the [German grading scale](https://www.uni-passau.de/en/apply/apply-with-intl-qualif...) (foreign grades will be converted after we receive your application). Alternatively, you should have evidence that your results were ranked among the best 50% of your cohort.

You will need German language skills at level B2 CEFR or higher to study this degree programme. If German was the language of instruction for your secondary school education or prior tertiary education, your academic certificates suffice as proof of your language skills. Otherwise, you will have to provide a [recognised German language certificate](https://www.uni-passau.de/en/german-language-requirements) along with your application for a place of study.
You can apply for a place on this programme before completing your undergraduate degree, provided you will have achieved at least 140 [ECTS](https://www.uni-passau.de/en/ma-geography#ECTS) credits by the time teaching starts on the Master's programme. Among these, there must be 5 [ECTS](https://www.uni-passau.de/en/ma-geography#ECTS) credits in geography as well as 5 [ECTS](https://www.uni-passau.de/en/ma-geography#ECTS) credits in research methods. You will have to submit your transcript of records, which must show how many regular semesters of study you have completed, how many [ECTS](https://www.uni-passau.de/en/ma-geography#ECTS) credits you have attained, and that your projected final grade is expected to be 2.7 or better according to the German grading scale.
You will have to provide proof of having completed your undergraduate degree to the Student Registration Office by 30 September the following year. This deadline cannot be extended by taking a leave of absence.
