What you need to apply for Physics at University of Siegen

For the application to our Master of Science Program in Physics, you need the following documents as PDF files. In case of admission, original documents have to be presented for the enrollment. For deciding about your application, we may invite you for an online interview.
Short cover letter (500 words), specifying your intended field of specialization.
Curriculum Vitae
Certificates of all your university education
Transcript of all your university education, providing a list of all grades
Proof of proficiency in English (or German)
optional: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) physics certificate
You are also asked to provide two names of professors who we may contact for a letter of recommendation. Alternatively you can upload letters of recommendation or ask the professors to submit their letter directly to: Matthias Kleinmann, [email protected]

Two letters of recommendation, indicating the students ranking in percent (e.g., best 10 %, best 10 - 20 %, best 20 - 30 %) of all students in the subject. If possible, the letters should be sent directly by their writers to the e-mail address mentioned below. We may contact the referees for further information.
GRE physics test (as an additional supporting document, but not mandatory)
1) Qualified bachelor's degree from a university or a university of applied sciences
2) A qualified degree equivalent to the Bachelor's degree according to item 1).
3) A Bachelor's degree in the subject of physics is deemed qualified if acquired at a university in the scope of application of the German Civil Code and completed at least with the grade satisfactory, or if equivalent to such a degree. Equivalence is determined by the examination board for the master's degree program physics.
4) Applicants with qualifications from a foreign institution have to provide documentation of a sufficient command of the German or English language. Details are given in the examination regulation.

You are encouraged to apply early, even if you are still in the process of completing your degree. In this case, please explain in an additional statement which courses and examinations are missing and when you expect to finish. We will then make a preliminary decision on your admission. Note that the enrollment requires a completed B.Sc. degree.
If you hold a degree in a subject closely related to physics, you are also welcome to apply. Be aware that we require knowledge in physics at a level equivalent to a BSc in physics including, for example, quantum theory. You can also demonstrate your knowledge in physics via a [GRE physics test](https://www.ets.org/gre.html) result.
If you do not have a certificate of English proficiency, you may apply with a letter from your university certifying that the language of instruction was English. Note that for a student visa for Germany, a TOEFL or IELTS certificate may be mandatory
