Questions about Kiel University of Applied Sciences (FH Kiel)

If your university entrance qualification or first degree is not from Germany, you apply online through uni-assist with legally certified and officially translated documents. If you attended a preparatory college (Studienkolleg) or have a certificate of equivalence from the Ministry of Education, you apply directly to the university instead. You can apply for only one restricted-admission course, but several courses with free admission.

For restricted-admission courses, applications run from the beginning of November to 15 January for the summer semester and from May to 15 July for the winter semester. These are legal cut-off dates; documents arriving later are not considered.

The first admission letters usually go out 2 or 3 weeks after the deadline of 15 January or 15 July, by email notification. Enrolment for the winter semester usually takes place at the end of August.

It is a 3-semester Master's taught in English, starting each summer and winter term with restricted admission. All compulsory modules run Monday to Wednesday, so you can combine it with a job, and you work on a practical project with companies from Northern Germany.

A Bachelor's with a grade of at least 2.5 and 30 ECTS in mathematics/statistics and computer science (at least 10 in each), plus English at B2. With a Bachelor's from outside the Bologna area you also need a GRE with at least the 65th percentile in all parts.

The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein takes online applications from students of the universities it lists, including Kiel University (CAU) and HAW Kiel; you do not need a certificate of enrolment yet. It asks you to apply by 15 July for the winter semester or 15 January for the summer semester, though these are not cut-off deadlines. Chances are better in the summer semester, and the deposit is 500 euros.
