Questions about Martin Luther University (MLU) Halle-Wittenberg

You apply through uni-assist, which assesses your formal eligibility for MLU. The application period for summer semester 2027 started on 30 September 2026. Not every programme starts in summer, so check the study offer first.

MLU's applicant page lists 15 June for the winter semester (31 March for the M.Sc. Pharmaceutical and Industrial Biotechnology) and 15 December for the summer semester. It also says the deadlines for all 2027 Master's programmes are being revised and moved earlier, with news expected in late February.

MLU charges no application fee, but uni-assist charges 75 euros for the first application and 30 euros for each additional one. As a state university, MLU generally charges no tuition fees (with a few exceptions), but every student pays a semester fee that includes the public transport ticket.

uni-assist takes about 4 weeks, up to 6 in busy times. As a general guide, for Master's programmes with restricted access MLU replies from early or mid-August for the winter semester and from mid-February for the summer semester; open-admission Master's programmes reply from July or February. For the M.Sc. Pharmaceutical and Industrial Biotechnology, replies come from the end of May or beginning of June.

Yes, you can upload documents later in your my.assist account, but all mandatory documents must reach uni-assist by the end of the application deadline. Nothing mandatory can be added after the deadline.

No, not automatically. MLU only exempts native speakers who earned their school or degree qualification in Australia, Ireland, Canada (excluding Quebec), New Zealand, Singapore, the UK or the USA and spent at least the last 2 years of that education there. Each programme page lists accepted English proofs.
