How to apply
What you need to apply for Sustainable International Agriculture at University of Kassel
Applicants whose first language is not English have to prove a good working knowledge of English. Their proficiency in English must be certified in an internationally recognised test. The following tests and levels are accepted:
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English at least with grade B
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English at least with grade C
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with at least 6 points
At least 550 points in a paper-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
At least 213 points in a computer-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
At least 80 points in an Internet-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
UNIcert level III
C1 certificate of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference)

At least 6-semester BSc degree with a good average grade in agricultural sciences or a related field of study.
All suitable applicants will be ranked according to their BSc grade average. The highest ranking is admissible.
The fields of study Botany, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Biotechnology are not closely related to the agricultural sciences and are therefore excluded from the application procedure.

Admission to the master's programme is dependent upon the completion of a Bachelor of Science degree of at least three years' duration in Agriculture or other related disciplines at an accredited institution, whether in Germany or elsewhere. Applicants with other related degrees must demonstrate a minimum of 60 ECTS in agricultural subjects, which may include plant sciences, animal sciences, resource management, agricultural economics, or agricultural sociology. Applicants who have studied subjects such as botany, biochemistry, horticulture, biodiversity, ecology, nature conservation, molecular and cell biology, or biotechnology, which are not directly related to agriculture, are not eligible
The MSc Sustainable International Agriculture (SIA) is a joint degree program of two German Universities: The University of Kassel in Witzenhausen (Organic Agricultural Sciences) and the University of Göttingen (Agricultural Sciences).
All SIA modules are taught in English. The study programme is internationally oriented and offers three possibilities for specialisation:
International Agribusiness and Rural Development Economics
International Organic Agriculture
Tropical Agricultural and Agroecosystems Sciences
Depending on the specialisation, the courses take place at campus Göttingen or at campus Witzenhausen
What to prepare for your application to Sustainable International Agriculture
1. Curriculum Vitae with Passport-size photograph:
Complete and signed.
2. Proof of proficiency in English:
Exempted from the requirement to provide proof of language proficiency are students whose first language is English according the the UK government's list of countries for issuing student visas (the exempted countries are: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the British overseas territories, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, USA).
Applicants from all other countries are asked to submit a proof of proficiency in English (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, GRE Scores).

3. Official academic transcripts:
Copies of transcripts and degree certificates in English or German from all colleges/ universities attended.
Please note:
Legible A4 sized coloured scans of all original documents.
Both sides of all the documents must be scanned.
Documents translated into English language must be notarised.
Applicants from EU-countries who have not completed their B.Sc. yet by the time of application must prove a minimum of 150 ECTS. The BSc certificate plus final transcript must then be submitted latest within 4 weeks after the lectures have started.
For China, Mongolia, India and Vietnam, only APS-proven academic transcript and degree certificates are accepted for application.
4. Academic diplomas:
Copies of your high school diploma and of further academic diplomas, if applicable (in English, German or Spanish).
5. Professional experience:
Applicants who have professionel agricultural experience may provide proof of this.
6. Other MSc courses:
Each applicant must fill in and load up the form "Declaration Master Studies". Here, the applicant declares, whether she/he has started or completed an earlier master study program or that this is not the case.
7. Letter of motivation:
(1 page) in English. The candidate shall highlight his or her motives and interests to enroll in the M.Sc. program and explain how he/she intends to use the M.Sc. degree in his/her future professional career.
If you have started a Master degree all fields in the application form concerning Master degree must be filled.

After online registration for the SIA program you will receive a registration number via email. Please fill in the application form and submit it. Then you will receive an automatic email with information on how to upload the required documents (simultaneous applications for several master courses only require uploading your documents once). A legend of your Univrsity's grading system (highest grade obtainable / minimum pass) is obligatory. If there is no legend on your BSc transcript please add an official one.
For China, Mongolia and Vietnam, only APS-proven (https://www.aps.org.cn/web/indexe.jsp) academic transcript and degree certificates are accepted for application.
After September 2022 for India only APS-proven (www.aps-india.de) academic transcript and degree certificates are accepted for application.
If you have started a Master degree all fields in the application form concerning Master degree must be filled.
Before you submit the form, please check if you have given information not only to all agricultural relevant courses you have passed but also to agricultural relevant practicals, internships and work experience. This might add to your chances of getting a study place. After you submit the form you can't make any changes. Only papers and certificates you upload before submission of the application will be evaluated. Documents added after the deadline will not be accepted.
The selection committee will rank 80 percent of the candidates according to points given for BSc grade, motivation, reference letters, and any other supporting qualifications. 20 percent will be ranked after interview to assess the candidate's suitability. Applicants selected for interview will be informed accordingly.
When will you get informed whether you have been admitted or not?
Please allow for at least two months after deadline before expecting application news. Most likely End of April or beginning of May.
