M.Sc. Mathematics

Mathematics at Saarland University is a research-oriented, two-year international Master of Science worth 120 credit points, with all classes in English and starts in the winter or the summer semester. You work in small groups with individual supervision from professors and their assistants. Research areas include algebra, geometry and number theory, analysis, mathematical data analysis, mathematics education, numerics and stochastics, with close links to the Department of Computer Science and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in discrete mathematics, complexity theory and computational geometry. Compulsory modules make up 42 credits: a 30-credit thesis written over six months and a 12-credit Master's seminar. You take at least 61 credits of optional modules from core and advanced lectures and seminars, and tutoring, languages, soft skills or industrial placements can count for up to 17. It suits graduates aiming for mathematical research and development, banks, consultancies or IT and telecoms firms.
