Art History

Admission Requirements

(1) Admission to the Master of Arts in Art History program is open to those who:

1\. have obtained a first degree from a German university in a bachelor's program or in an equivalent degree program of at least three years at a German or foreign university that meets the qualifying requirements specified in paragraph 2,

2\. have knowledge of the German language that corresponds to at least level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, knowledge of English that corresponds to at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and knowledge of another modern foreign language that corresponds to at least level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and

3\. have basic knowledge of Latin or knowledge of a third modern foreign language that corresponds to at least level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

(2) The applicant must provide evidence that they have earned at least 40 ECTS credits through coursework and examinations in the subject of art history within the framework of the university program leading to the first degree (paragraph 1, no. 1).

For successful completion of the Master's program in Art History, you should bring the following with you:

• Proof of at least 40 ECTS in art history from your bachelor's degree program.
• Knowledge of English (B1 level) and a second modern foreign language (A2 level)
• Knowledge of Latin or knowledge of a third modern foreign language (A2 level), which must be proven by the end of the 2nd semester of study
• Interest in the historical development of works of art, artists, aesthetics and artistic elements
• Independence and motivation to independently acquire knowledge and reflect on various contents
• Openness towards professional experience through internships as well as towards stays abroad and excursions
