Global Studies is an English-taught Master of Arts at Leipzig University that looks closely at globalisation and its processes in the Global North and the Global South, combining approaches from global history, political science and cultural studies. The cohorts are international, and a stay abroad is built in: on the European Perspective track, for example, you spend two semesters at a partner university in London, Roskilde, Vienna or Wroclaw, while other tracks include study in Addis Ababa or at the London School of Economics. In the second and third semesters you choose two of four regionally focused modules, such as Africa and the Near East or the Americas, and all students take an Academic Writing and Research Skills module. The programme runs for four semesters with 120 credits, including a 20-credit thesis, and starts in the winter semester. It suits graduates in history, cultural studies, social sciences or economics.
Specialization
In addition to these compulsory modules, in the second and third semesters you will choose regionally focused modules (two out of four): Regions in Globalisation Processes: Africa and the Near East Regions in Globalisation Processes: The Americas Regions in Globalisation Processes: Asia and the Middle East Regions in Globalisation Processes: Europe
