Master of Health Science - Prevention and Health Promotion

-University's bachelor's degree with a minimum amount of 6 semesters, or an equivalent in health science or related course of studies. Subject to official inspection of application documents, bachelor's programs in the following fields will be accepted: health, medicine, nutrition, physiotherapy, psychology, etc. Other degrees will be examined on a case by case basis. Please notice that the department is not able to give you any reliable estimation of your admissibility or whether your previous degree program will be accepted in advance.

Note: the grade of the bachelor's degree and the professional qualification are included in the aptitude procedure. Foreign grades are calculated using the Bavarian formula. The professional qualification is recorded using a curricular analysis. Please download the following Excel sheet, enter your grades and information on the curricular analysis and upload it to your TUMonline account when applying. The university needs the data to calculate the grade with the best modules in the amount of 140 credits (TUM equivalent). The overall grade average is calculated as the weighted average of the grades of the modules. Without submission of the data, you can be accepted as well, but the university will not calculate the better grade but take the official grade.

Evidence of a successfully passed vocational internship (min. 8 weeks in the field of health science) before taking up the master's studies. Proof has to be given to the Department's Student Advisory Office no later than 5 weeks after the start of lectures. The Department's Examination Board examines vocational qualifications on the basis of the Professional Qualifications Directive. Internships passed during an undergraduate degree will be recognized. The proof of internship should be submitted by the start of course registration at the beginning of October, as a valid matriculation status is required for registration (proof of internship does not have to be submitted by the end of the application period). Please note that no definitive assessments can be made about the internship by the faculty in advance. Applicants with a bachelor's degree at the Faculty SG do not have to submit proof of practical training (available in-house).

Letter of motivation. Applicants should include a written statement explaining why he/she considers him/herself a suitable candidate for the M.Sc program. This could include exceptional motivation. The statement should be a maximum of 1 DIN A4 pages.

Abstract/exposé. Applicants should include an abstract of their bachelor thesis (300-500 words). If the thesis is not complete at the time of the application or is not required in the bachelor's program, the abstract can instead be a description of the main concept (scientific problem, methods). In the case that an international applicant was not required to write a bachelor thesis, they should instead submit a scientific exposé (300-500 words). The exposé should cover a research project conducted during the Bachelor studies e.g. in one of the courses or during an internship. This exposé should detail a scientific question that is relevant to the field of health science and by what scientific methods one might use to answer this question. The abstract/exposé should meet international scientific standards in form and content, should properly cite outside sources, and should include a declaration that the applicant has written the abstract/exposé by him/herself.

A completed Bachelor's degree is not required at the time of application. A certain number of credits must be submitted based on the transcript of grades:

at least 140 credits for a 6-semester Bachelor's programs

at least 164 credits for 7-semester Bachelor’s programs

at least 187 credits for 8-semester Bachelor’s programs
