How to apply
What you need to apply for Mathematics at University of Bonn
Results of a test (TOEFL, IELTS or similar);
Our requirement for the TOEFL is 550 points (written test) or 79 points (internet-based test). To have your TOEFL score sent directly to our department, please use the institution code 5177.
Our requirement for IELTS is a score of 6.0 or better.
Proof of other successfully completed English language courses;
Proof that the language of instruction in your Bachelor's program was English .
If English is your mother tongue then of course no proof is necessary.
Please apply in time even if you have not completed your graduation yet. In this case please upload your current transcript of records. You can be admitted for the winter term (starting in October) if your Bachelor studies will be finished before 30 September. You can be admitted for the summer term (starting in April) if you finish your Bachelor studies before 31 March. Once you are in Bonn, you will have to show us your Bachelor's degree certificate to prove your degree.

Please write a letter of motivation (in German or English) outlining the reasons for your application to the Bonn Master's program. State your core mathematical area of interest and describe your experience in this field.
(D) Indicate whether you know, or are in contact with, someone in our department.
Please include in tabular form (in a table rather than a prose text) a description of your high school education and your undergraduate education, as well as your academic and non-academic activities. Please include a photo in your CV.
We need one letter of recommendation for international applicants. Your recommender will be contacted automatically by the system. Please be very attentive when entering the recommender's e-mail address so that the system will be able to successfully contact them.
We recommend applicants with a non-European Bachelor of Mathematics and applicants with a bachelor degree in another subject to take the GRE Subject Test in Mathematics before applying to our programme. To have your GRE Subject Test result sent directly to our office, please use the Designated Institution Code 6301.
University degree (German or non-German) in mathematics or a related discipline
English language proficiency (CEFR level B2)
As proof of your English language proficiency, we accept one of the following documents:
Minimum grade of 2.5 or local equivalent
Modules in mathematics worth a minimum of 120 ECTS credits
For non-EU applicants, the selection committee will assess the program-specific preparation for the Master's program in Mathematics.
The application documents will be used to evaluate the level of mathematical training achieved with the first degree, especially whether the applicants have the necessary knowledge in the areas listed below:
