How to apply
What you need to apply for Digital Media at University of the Arts Bremen
The prerequisite for admission to the master's programme is a bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.Sc.) in an area relevant to digital media (e.g. computer science, systems engineering, design, fine arts, media art, architecture) or an equivalent degree. It is possible to apply for the master’s programme if this qualifying degree is in progress and will be issued before the first of October of the same year. In addition, proof must be provided that at least 150 ECTS have been acquired in this degree program.
In order to check whether the previous degree(s) qualify for admission to the master's degree programme, we rely on the official German database Anabin. If the previous qualification cannot be found there, we contact the German Central Office for Foreign Education.
Please note that in rare cases the title B.Sc. or B.A. alone is not sufficient for admission, especially not a mere two-year bachelor's degree. Please do not forget to add information about your previous degree programme (e.g. a web address).
[Certificate of language skills / Certificate English Language Proficiency](https://www.hfk-bremen.de/en/application/bewerbung-im-digitale-medien-m-a/3#certificate-of-language-skills-/-certificate-english-language-proficiency)
For admission you must demonstrate a good knowledge of the English language with one of the following certificates:
Your certificate must be presented upon enrolment. To ensure that your language certificate arrives on time, do not ask TOEFL or other test providers to send it directly to us. Instead, upload a scan of the certificate to the application portals. You will later be asked to provide the original or a certified copy. The need to present this certificate can be waived if the previous degree that qualifies you for this master's programme was taught in English or if the school education that qualifies you for university entrance was in English. In this case, please note this information in the corresponding comment field of the application portal and provide evidence that the lessons actually took place in English, if this is not a given (e.g. when studying at regular universities in Australia, New Zealand, the USA or in Great Britain).
The portfolio can contain any artistic, design, academic, scientific or theoretical work as well as professional work and achievements that reflect your interests, your (artistic) position, your experiences, your knowledge and skills and any other aspects that you think we should take into account.
The choice of formats is free. There is also no set number of works or projects that must be included, although a standard number of 10–20 works has proven to be sufficient.
The portfolio can be uploaded to the application portal (e.g. as a PDF), sent by mail (avoid mailing original, non-digital artworks; use digital replicas instead), or as a link to a personal website, a private upload area or a repository. Due to the limited space in the application portals, it is advisable to use the latter option.
