How to apply
What you need to apply for Master in International Economics and Public Policy (MIEPP) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU)
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum total score of 227 (computer-based test, CBT), 87 (Internet-based test, IBT), 567 (paper-based test, PBT) or the IELTS with a minimum total score of 5 or, alternatively, acquiring the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) similarly no more than three years old as of the application deadline. If the test completion certificate as detailed above is not available at the time of application, the applicant may be admitted on the condition that they provide the certificate along with the test results no later than the end of the semester they began their study. If the proof is not provided on time or the test results do not meet the requirements, admission will be rescinded. The applicant must provide proof of native speaker knowledge to the Foreign Language Center at JGU no later than the end of the semester in which they began their study. If this proof is not provided on time, the admission will be rescinded.

Step 2: Program application
The second step, the regular program application, consists of filling out the online application on [Johannes Gutenberg Universität](https://jogustine.uni-mainz.de/scripts/mgrqispi.dll?APPNAME=CampusNet&PRGNAME=EXTERNALPAGES&ARGUMENTS=-N000000000000002,-N000840,-A00%5Fwelcome%5Fen).
Both the application and the submission of all required documents are handled entirely in digital form.
Please note: Your application will only be processed once the complete online application, including all necessary documents, has been successfully submitted and received by the Student Office before the application deadline.
Please note that you do not need any proof of German language proficiency and that the additional documents listed under the [Admission Requirements](https://www.master.economics.uni-mainz.de/admission-requirements/) are required for the selection process undertaken by the faculty.

Students who did not receive their Bachelor-level degree at a German University also need to get approval to study at Johannes Gutenberg University (see step 1 of the application procedure)

Go to our application portal JOGU-StINe and click on "Create Account" to generate an applicant account.
2. Log in with your account and click on "Application/Registration > My applications"
3. Complete the application as described in our guide for the application for recognition (see "downloads"). Under "Which degree program do you want to apply for", please select "Application for recognition of foreign certificates and diplomas" and save your application.
4. Click on "Find courses offered" and select "Recognition of foreign certificates and diplomas" as your subject.
5. Please fill in the application form and send your application.
6. Submit the printed, personally signed application form including all required documents.

JGU automatically notifies applicants by post whether their application has been successful/unsuccessful. In general, applicants for a basic course of study will be informed by MID-MARCH (summer semester) or MID-SEPTEMBER (winter semester). Decisions on applications for Master's degree programs are sent out approx. 4-6 weeks earlier.
Notifications of successful/unsuccessful admission to a more advanced semester in a course with entrance restrictions can only be issued shortly after the start of the semester or, in some cases, AFTER the start of the lecture period. Places can only be assigned if and when they become available due to the removal from the register of other students.

Additional fee information
there are no tuition fees at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Students only have to pay an administrative fee for registration with university’s students service. Costs are around 350 Euros per semester at the moment. This registration entitles students to different Services. For example, the administration fee of € 357.46 in the winter semester 2023 is used for:
EUR 235.66 are charged for the semester ticket (you can use this ticket for public transportation in the Mainz and Wiesbaden city buses and light rail (MVG) as well as in the entire network of the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) and the Rhein-Nahe-Nahverkehrsverbund (RNN) within the region)
EUR 104.00 goes to the Studentenwerk. The Studentenwerk maintains the canteen, cafeterias, dormitories and various social counselling and assistance services.
EUR 13.10 are charged to financially support the activities of the Student Union.
EUR 1.60 are awarded to the Student Sports Committee to offer additional sports activities.
EUR 1.55 go to the Student Aid Fund. The AStA (General Students' Committee) uses these funds to provide assistance to students in need in case of emergency.
EUR 1.55 are charged for the financial support of the psychoterapeuticcounseling cente
Furthermore, the owner of a student ticket gets several discounts at places of interest in all of Germany.
