What you need to apply for Art Education at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU)
Degree prorammes with a relevant subject profile are combined study programmes with art history as the major subject and the teaching degree for grammar school with art as the major subject. Academic qualifications in cultural science with an emphasis on art, media science with an emphasis on art, free art and art history as well as in related areas with artistic-aesthetic elements can be accepted as equivalent. The board of examiners can also accept other courses of study as equivalent by examing them individually and as may be the case take additional relevant work experience into account.
APTITUDE TEST
Who has to take the aptitude test?
You must take an aptitude test if you want to study art education or the subject as a major or minor in the history and cultural studies program.
In addition, you must take the aptitude test if you want to choose art education as a minor in the educational science program with a focus on extracurricular education.

Contents of the aptitude test
In the artistic aptitude test, you must demonstrate that you possess the artistic skills and abilities necessary to successfully complete the practical components of your studies. The following areas will be assessed: ability to observe in a differentiated manner, ability to think abstractly, technical ability and understanding, imagination and visualization, motivation and sensitivity, intensity and depth, ability to experiment and improvise, and interest in the art world.
The aptitude test consists of two parts: a portfolio with approximately 20 of your own artistic works and a technical discussion on the contents of your portfolio.

What to prepare for your application to Art Education
Your school-leaving certificate (this may in certain cases take the form of a listing of the subject grades achieved in your last year of school; if applicable, also an academic transcript and/or diploma from a university already attended) and a translation of these documents (into English or German). Translations are only accepted from accredited translators who are authorized to issue official translations in their respective home country. We accept documents in German and English.
-applicants for a Master's programme also need the complete Transcript of Records and the Bachelor's certificate as well as their translation (if applicable - we accept documents in English or German) by accredited translators (i.e., translators who are authorized to issue official translations in their respective home country).
-proof of your language proficiency (depending on your subject of study: German and/or English, or additional languages). If you do not yet have sufficient German language skills to apply, please apply for the "Deutschkurs/German language course" to take part in an intensive German language course to prepare you for your studies at JLU.
