How to apply
What you need to apply for Economics (VWL) at University of Freiburg (Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg)
To meet the requirements for successful study in the M.Sc. Economics, applicants must demonstrate the following competencies and documents:
1. Bachelor's degree in economics with a grade of 2.7 or better (or comparable university degree of at least three years) with at least 20 ECTS credits from the field of mathematics/statistics/econometrics and at least 70 ECTS credits from economics modules, of which at least 40 ECTS credits from economics modules. If the grade point average of the required university degree is lower than 2.7, the bachelor's thesis or final paper must have been evaluated with a grade of at least 2.0\*.
2. Strong interest in economic issues and economic analysis
3. Knowledge of the German language at least on level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
4. Knowledge of English at least on level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

For a successful study in the M.Sc. VWL, language skills of German on level C1 and English on level B2 according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages have to be proven for the application.

What to prepare for your application to Economics (VWL)
It is no longer necessary to submit an application and accompanying documents to the university by mail or in person. Please refer to the information on the overview page "Studienbewerbung" (login required).
You must upload the following documents (§3 Zulassungsordnung - Bewerbung) for an application:
Certificate of the Bachelor's degree (or comparable university degree)
Meaningful certified overview of all examination and study achievements, including the individual grades earned and the overall grade (ATTENTION: Machine-generated performance overviews will not be accepted!)
Proof of German and English language skills (see below);
a curriculum vitae in tabular form in German or English (max. 1 DIN A4 page)
a letter of motivation of one DIN A4 page in German or English, in which the applicant's personal motives for taking up the Master's program in Economics are explained
a declaration in German or English, signed by the applicant himself/herself, stating whether he/she has definitively failed an examination in a Master's, Magister or Diplom degree program in economics and has lost his/her examination entitlement.
If documents No. 1 to 3 are not in German, English or French, a copy of an officially certified translation in German or English is required.
Unfortunately, incomplete applications cannot be considered.
