The following special admission requirements apply to the Master’s program in Art History:
a) a first professionally qualifying degree in the Bachelor’s program in Art History at the
University of Hamburg or in a comparable program at another university.
b) Proficiency in English and another modern foreign language corresponding to reference
level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Proof
of language proficiency is not required if the applicant is a first language speaker.
c) Secured knowledge of Latin (“Kleines Latinum”). If Latin knowledge is not documented in
the school certificate, appropriate evidence of successful participation in a grammar
course and a reading course, e.g., in the Latin courses I–II of the Faculty of Humanities,
shall be deemed equivalent. Knowledge of Latin can be supplemented by another
foreign language corresponding to the reference level.
B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Proof of language skills must be provided at the latest when registering for the Master’s
thesis.
All applicants who did not complete their undergraduate degree at a German-speaking university must demonstrate sufficient German language proficiency for enrollment (not yet for application).
Recognition of Certificates for Degrees Obtained Abroad
For applicants who earned their first degree abroad, the recognition of a degree obtained abroad will be processed as part of the faculty's application process.

If you are still studying at the time of application and cannot provide a degree certificate with a grade, please submit a current transcript of records with a provisional average grade. If you have any outstanding academic achievements, please provide a table listing them, including the number of ECTS credits. The degree certificate must be submitted by the end of the first master's semester.
